Allison Stokke and Alyce Caron

Allison Stokke one of the most successful Pole Vaulters in the world was born 22 March, 1989 Newport Beach California United States. The picture she posted at her 17th birthday celebration in 2007 became viral and it made her into an official Pole Vaulter. She has gained a huge fan base on social media sites like Instagram as well as Twitter. She's a track and field athlete similar to Jessica Ennis Hill. According to the Los Angeles Times among others that Stokke didn't seek nor advocate for this kind of attention. In their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society Brett Hutchins and David Rowe linked Stokke's case with the case of American soccer players Alex Morgan and Hope Solo female athletes who were fetishized and were seen as having their images being framed in a manner which, according to the authors, diminished their achievements in sports. In relation to Stokke, they noted that many social media posts included insulting content. They also blamed the sexualisation of women. Some drew parallels with Brandi's victory celebration at the FIFA World Cup Final 1999 in her sports t-shirt. Sports events for women are often dragged under the shadow of the debate over their appearance. Images of Stokke competing on the track in New York in early 2007 were captured by a reporter for an Californian track and field web site and then posted on the internet. With Leather, a popular sports website that attracts plenty of readers who are male, re-posted the photo in May with the caption Pole Vaulting Is Sexy Barely legal. Matt Ufford had threatened to take action against the photographer for failing to removal of the picture. The story was popular and received much attention. A website dedicated to Stokke soon emerged with several photos of her in the pole vault and, after these images spread through social media, internet fan groups attracted thousands of followers.
